Week 29

29 weeks down, 11 more to go... or maybe less???

I saw my OB yesterday. Another good visit. RJ is continuing to do well - heart rate was right at 140. My uterus is growing right on schedule and my weight gain is on target as well.

Since we're in the third trimester, I decided to ask my doctor when he will remove the cerclage. He recommended that we schedule this at week 38 - around Memorial Day. I asked about the details, and apparently the procedure will be done in the delivery room. What!? Yeah - didn't know that detail. Apparently once the stitch is removed (and it's gonna hurt and be uncomfortable, he said) - they will monitor me, and the bleeding, for a few hours. THEN, I just found out, we will determine whether or not I should be induced at that time...

Again, WHAT!? I didn't know that me being induced was part of the plan??? Anyhoo... we discussed this further, I've wrapped my brain around it, and I'm slowly but surely coming to accept that: (1) the removal of my cerclage is going to hurt, (2) it will be done in a delivery room, (3) I'm probably not going home after the procedure, and (4) we should plan to stay as I will most likely be induced and deliver our son that week.

Wow, that was a lot for me to process. I am continuing to pray for the health of my baby and for the strength that we will need to get through all of this. I truly hope that all will go smoothly and that there will be no complications... On a good note, at least I can shower and shave my legs before going into the hospital (hahaha!)

Third Trimester!

Whoo hoo - this is it - I'm in my third trimester - yay!!! This is a big deal because in my previous pregnancies I made it to the second trimester, once, and never made it to the third trimester... until now. Thank you Lord!!!

I read that in this week our baby boy has started blinking in addition to coughing, sucking, hiccuping and taking practice breaths. His sleep now includes the REM phase - which means he could be dreaming. Wow. Most exciting, his lungs are nearly fully mature, that's so cool!

My key learning this week is to eat several small meals, rather than a few big meals. I made the mistake of overeating one time this week, and boy did I pay for it. I felt yucky for a couple days, but thankfully all is good now!

Hubby enjoys looking at my growing belly and we're both looking forward to bringing our little boy into this world. Continued positive thoughts and prayers. 28 weeks down, 12 more to go...

Baby Names

27 weeks down, 13 to go!

For several generations my father's family has had the tradition of naming their children by combining the names of the parents. My name (Floremy) came from a combination of my parents' names (Floreste & Remigia - aka, Remy). My father's name (Floreste) came from a combination of his parents' names (Florentino & Ester). And so on.

My mother's family has had the tradition of naming their children after Catholic saints. Usually they were named after a saint who's feast day fell on, or around, the child's birthday, but that wasn't always the case. My mother was born on October 1st, which is the feast day for St. Remigus. She was named, Remigia. Her sister, Hipolita, was named after St. Hipolytus. Her brother, Experio, I assume was named after St. Experius. I was born on St. Joseph Pignatelli's feast day.... I could have been named Josephina.

When we found out that we were expecting a child, the hubby and I discussed baby names. To be honest, at the time of the discussion I completely forgot about my mother's family's naming tradition and focused on my father's family tradition. Looking at our first names, we found that the combination of Floremy & Robert would result in names such as Flobert or Florebert. So, yeah... we decided not to continue that family tradition.

Today one of my best friends informed me of a recent discovery of hers. In the Catholic church, there is a saint named... St. Floribert!!! St. Floribert's feast day is 11/1. He was from Belgium and was also known as... Florbert. I couldn't believe it!

Wow. Seriously! Check it out: http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=3409

I'm going to share this with the hubby when he gets home from work. I don't think it'll change our decision to break from family tradition when we name our son, but it will definitely be a great conversation topic for many years to come!

Week 26

26 weeks down, 14 more to go!

Excellent news - I had my pregnancy glucose test last week and the results are normal. Thank goodness!

I read that this is the week that my son is going to open his eyes. Not much to see in there... but how exciting for him! Supposedly he can see a bright light if it's shined on my belly.... hmmm, that seems a little cruel for the little guy... thankfully the hubby hasn't come at me with a flashlight yet (hahaha!)

RJ has been very active lately. His kicks are getting stronger, which is pretty cool. I saw him poking at my belly the other day - it was both amazing, and weird, to see.

Lately the hubby and I have been reading to my belly. We go to the library once a week and check out different children's books. Rob checked out a children's Star Wars book a couple of weeks ago - read the first chapter - then decided it was way too long (hehehe)! Right now we're reading Dr. Seuss books to Junior and hope he will recognize our voices when he's born.

So far so good - continued rest - continued positive thoughts and continued prayers! :)

Mr. Fantastic

I love my husband. He's the best. Really he is. He took some vacation days this week and was truly Mr. Fantastic.

See, I've been having serious cravings lately. Last Saturday I discovered that I can eat salmon. I also learned that salmon has Omega-3 which is great for the baby's brain development (bonus!) I had to have some. The hubby took me to a Japanese restaurant where I feasted on California rolls, Salmon Teriyaki and rice. Wow. It was the best.

The other day I had to have a Cinnabon. Not just any ordinary cinnamon roll - but an actual Cinnabon. The craving hit me Wednesday night at 9:43pm and the mall was already closed. You can get the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls with Cinnabon frosting at the grocery store, but the grocery store was going to close at 10:00pm so I knew he wouldn't make it. Thursday morning, sure enough, as soon as the mall opened the hubby took me there where I enjoyed not one, but one-and-one-half delicious Cinnabons (fresh out of the oven) with cold milk. It was deeeeeelicious!

Today I was craving a specific dish - BBQ pork strips w/egg and rice - from a tiny mom and pop place called Asian Fusion. I don't know why, but there's just something special about that dish. I haven't had anything like it before, honestly. Nothing else was going to satisfy this craving. There's one problem - it's really far from our house (at least 45 minutes away). God bless my husband, he took me there today and I feasted. Not only did I enjoy this dish, but I also had the fabulous dessert that they make there - fried bananas, wrapped in lumpia paper, with ice cream, whip and caramel....yummm!!!! The fried bananas taste just like the ones my mom used to make when I was growing up. Oh my gosh - it was such a good meal... and so filling... it's been 5 hours since we ate there and I'm still full! (Usually I get hungry every 2-3 hours.)

So yeah, I love my husband. More and more every day. This week in particular he was awesome... and I love him even more for that. I truly enjoyed the quality time that we spent together, and I'm going to miss my Mr. Fantastic tons when he goes back to work next week.

Cathy, Me and Our Bellies

Week 24... 16 more to go!

I went to the doctor's office this morning for my weekly progesterone shot. Oddly enough, for some reason the shot doesn't hurt when I get it on my right side, but whenever I get it in my left side it's painful and stings for several hours. I guess it's just one of those things that make you go, "hmmmm????"

I've finally recovered from the cortisone shots that I received last week. They seem to have helped, but sadly I still feel numbness in my fingers. At least it's not as bad as before.

As for the baby and I, we had a good day today. Hubby is on vacation, so we've been spending some quality time together. Today we were able to have lunch with my BFF (Cathy), her hubby and her brother. It was nice to get out of the house and hang out with good friends for a couple of hours.

Never in a million years did Cathy and I expect to be pregnant at the same time, so we decided to take a picture to capture the moment. Of course, I had to wear blue for my baby boy and she wore pink for her baby girl. Rob's comments never cease to amuse me - when we found out that we were having a boy, he told Cathy, "Now your daughter has a date for prom!" Hehehe.

We know what we're having!

23 weeks down, 17 to go!

We had the mother of all ultrasounds on Tuesday. I was SO nervous because, historically, we always received bad news during ultrasounds. This time was totally different. We saw our baby - and thankfully everything is NORMAL - yay!!! What I especially enjoyed was actually seeing the baby move on the monitor, and feeling the baby move inside me, at the same time. Wow - I really was feeling movement - it wasn't just gas (hahaha!!!)

The best part was when the tech was zooming in to one particular part of the baby, and the hubby quickly saw the one thing that all dad's look for...Ready???

IT'S A BOY!!!!

Oh my gosh, we are so excited. We're having a son. Our son. I have a son. Wow, that sounds so cool to say. Our little baby boy. Robert Junior. Maybe. We like the nickname RJ, so we'll see if it sticks :)

Rob's so happy. After walking through the toy section at Target he exclaimed, "My son and I are going to have SO MUCH FUN!" He's already planning the first time they're going to watch Star Wars together and is going through his library of Star Wars books to pick just the right one that he wants to read to my belly. LOL!

All is well otherwise. I've got my heartburn under control. Whenever I feel the symptoms I have a glass of milk or yogurt. That seems to fix it.

What I do have to complain about are my painful wrists. I had carpal tunnel syndrome before my pregnancy - so with pregnancy the symptoms got worse and worse. Unfortunately I was waking up several times in the middle of the night, in pain, lots of pain. It got so bad that I broke down and agreed to the much recommended, much needed, cortisone shots. I've had these in the past, however afterwards I would take ibuprofen and that would help keep the swelling and soreness down after the shots. This time I could only take regular strength Tylenol, which hardly did anything. I sucked it up and in a day or so I should be pain free - for at least a couple of months. At least then I can sleep through the night (with the occasional bathroom breaks, of course).

Back to the baby, I'm thrilled that we can now plan for his arrival. I can finally go online and register for baby things - specifically baby BOY things - how fun! Hubby is especially excited that Pottery Barn Kids has Star Wars stuff that we can register for. It's stuff for kids, not baby, but as much as my husband loves Star Wars, I'm going to find a way to work it into the nursery decor. (Ay yah yay!!!!) Any suggestions on how I can make a Star Wars themed nursery cute, and not scary for an infant??? (FYI - he's not a fan of the Clone Wars, so that idea is out...) Oh well, guess I better pack up the Hello Kitty decor I had been saving (hehehe).
